To help taxi drivers in Mexico, whose vehicles were being hijacked by their fares, Gateway developed a RFID vehicle “a proximity enabler” solution.
Gateway redesigned their SecurTag™ to include an internal relay that is controlled by the presence or absence of an associated tag. The relay can also be controlled by a user depressing one of two buttons available on the keyfob version. The SecurTag reader is hidden in a vehicle and the vehicle fuel pump’s power wire is re-routed through the reader’s relay. An authorized driver then discretely carries a SecurTag tag on their person. When the tag is in proximity of the reader, the reader’s relay allows power to go to the vehicle’s fuel pump. So when a vehicle is stolen and the reader no longer receives information from a tag, the reader’s relay disconnects power to the fuel pump causing the vehicle to act as though the vehicle ran out of gas. The timing and the distance a vehicle travels before a reader takes action is preconfigured based on the client’s requirements |
